[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said in response to a question about deploying troops to the Strait of Hormuz at a press conference with the public held at Cheong Wa Dae on the 18th, "There will be no troop deployment that involves intervening in a war."
Regarding a potential deployment to the Strait of Hormuz, President Lee said, "For our part, we must carry out at least the minimum activities to protect our country's merchant ships, oil transport routes, and the lives and safety of our people." He added, "That is clear." He also said, "The Cheonghae Unit has been deployed and is responding to ensure the safety of our people. We are carefully considering ways to strengthen this role."
However, President Lee said, "It seems that some people are concerned that sending combat troops could mean assigning our service members under the command of a foreign military commander and putting them in danger." He emphasized, "To reiterate, there will be no troop deployment to war."
President Lee added, "The principle of non-involvement and non-intervention in war has been upheld until now and will continue to be upheld in the future."
