[Financial News] Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, the country's three mobile carriers will activate 24-hour emergency response systems to prepare for a surge in telecommunications traffic. In anticipation of increased travel for the holiday, video calls and over-the-top (OTT) streaming services use, the carriers will expand base-station capacity in key areas and strengthen AI-based network monitoring and security surveillance.
According to the telecommunications industry on the 18th, SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus have prepared special service measures for the Chuseok holiday and will intensively manage major telecommunications networks nationwide.

SK Telecom will operate special service measures from the 23rd through the 27th, centered on its comprehensive situation room and linked with regional situation rooms. A total of 3,625 personnel from affiliates and partner companies, including SK Broadband, SK O&S and Home & Service, will monitor telecommunications networks nationwide around the clock. A separate monitoring system will also operate during the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which run from the 19th through the 4th of next month.
The company will use its in-house wireless network AI operations system, "A-One," to analyze traffic and equipment conditions across the nationwide network in real time and detect early signs of service degradation.
It will also continuously monitor abnormal signs using its core network AI integrated monitoring system, "SPIDER." SKT expects peak hourly data usage on Chuseok Day, the 25th, to increase by 10.3% from normal levels. It has completed capacity expansions at 5G and LTE base stations in traffic-heavy areas, including highways, national roads, ancestral grave sites, and tourist and recreational facilities. International roaming users are also expected to increase by up to 25% from normal levels, prompting SKT to strengthen cooperation with overseas operators.
Video calls will also be offered free of charge from the 24th through the 27th. Major services such as TMAP, A. and PASS will operate separate situation rooms, while 24-hour security monitoring will be conducted through the integrated security operations center.

KT has designated the period from the 23rd through the final day of the holiday as its "Network Intensive Management Period." It has completed telecommunications quality checks and base-station capacity optimization at major highways and transportation hubs, including KTX-Sancheon and SRT railway stations, airports and bus terminals. During the holiday, 5G and LTE base stations in major resorts and areas popular with family visitors will be monitored intensively around the clock.
KT will also strengthen security monitoring against smishing messages impersonating holiday gifts and cyberattacks. In preparation for typhoons and heavy rain, it conducted advance inspections of outdoor base-station antennas, telecommunications facilities, utility poles and transmission towers. To prepare for emergencies such as power outages, it pre-positioned emergency power equipment, including mobile power-generation vehicles and portable generators, at major hubs nationwide.

LG Uplus is also launching special service measures ahead of the Chuseok holiday using its AI-based autonomous network platform, "AI On." It will operate a comprehensive situation room at its Magok office in Seoul, intensively monitor telecommunications networks nationwide around the clock during the holiday, and respond to real-time changes in traffic.
LG Uplus has also completed quality measurements and optimization work for 5G and LTE base stations on highways and at rest areas nationwide, KTX-Sancheon and SRT stations, bus terminals and airports. Field personnel will be stationed at major highway toll plazas, rest areas and frequently congested sections to prepare for unexpected situations. The company has expanded cache-server capacity in anticipation of increased viewing of U+tv and OTT video content. LG Uplus will likewise provide free video calls from the 24th through the 27th to all customers, including budget mobile subscribers.
