[Financial News] It was reported that buying the base model of Apple's first foldable smartphone, the 'iPhone Duo,' in Türkiye would require paying more than 6.5 million won. That is well over twice the local launch price in the United States. The iPhone Duo's retail price varied widely depending on country- and region-specific taxes and pricing policies.
According to market research firm Nukeni on the 18th, the 256GB iPhone Duo was the most expensive in Türkiye, at approximately $4,742, or about 6.54 million won. Brazil followed at approximately $4,310, while India was priced at around $3,150.
The least expensive location was the United States region with the lowest tax rate, where the phone cost $1,999. In other words, buying the same product in Türkiye requires paying roughly 2.4 times as much as in the United States. Based solely on the dollar-converted prices, the gap between the two regions amounted to $2,743.
The 256GB iPhone Duo was priced at approximately $2,459 in South Korea when converted to dollars. However, based on the exchange rate on the 10th, its official domestic launch price was set at 3.29 million won.
Countries where the price was higher than in South Korea included Canada's highest-tax region at $2,498, Vietnam at $2,510, Australia at $2,526, and the Philippines at $2,559. Türkiye's price was approximately 1.9 times higher than South Korea's in dollar terms.
Countries where the price was lower than in South Korea included the UAE at $2,314, Malaysia at $2,335, Taiwan at $2,376, Japan at $2,377, and China at $2,384. South Korea ranked 13th among the locations compared in terms of affordability.
The price gap was also substantial for the higher-capacity models. The 2TB model cost $3,199 in the United States region with the lowest tax rate, compared with $6,928 in Türkiye—more than twice as much. South Korea was the eighth least expensive location among those compared, at $3,805.
Nukeni compared the tax-inclusive launch prices listed on online Apple Stores in various countries after converting them into U.S. dollars based on exchange rates on the 10th. The firm explained that because exchange rates continue to fluctuate, the dollar-converted prices may vary depending on when the purchase is made.
