[Financial News] As signs emerged on the 18th that President Lee Jae Myung and the Democratic Party of Korea were attempting to push through Kim Seung-won's appointment as Minister of Justice, People Power Party floor leader Jeong Jeom-sig criticized them, saying, "They are trampling on the rule of law solely for their own political survival," and adding, "(President Lee is) someone trying to bury the trial in full view of the entire nation."
Speaking at a floor leadership meeting at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea that morning, Jeong Jeom-sig said, "None of the allegations concerning nominee Kim's solicitation and the 'family cooperative' have been resolved," and added, "Even so, the Democratic Party of Korea recklessly pushed it through."
He claimed, "There is only one reason President Lee nominated Kim despite his fatal flaws, including drunk driving, drug-related solicitation and the family cooperative: his record of serving as the representative of Gongso Chwiso Moim (Gongchwimo)."
He continued, "In President Lee's eyes, that disgraceful record, which drew condemnation from the entire nation, must have looked like a trustworthy credential," and pointed out, "An unqualified nominee is trying to become the Minister of Justice who would eliminate President Lee's trial after going through a hearing without proper vetting."
He added, "The moment nominee Kim's appointment is forced through, angry public sentiment will overwhelm President Lee," and warned, "The people themselves will pursue the burying of President Lee's trial to the very end."
