KIMFT Launches 'AI Innovation Promotion Task Force' to Lead AI Transformation in Maritime and Fisheries Sector

[Financial News] The Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology (KIMFT) has launched an organization to proactively respond to the government's AI transformation (AX) policy drive and lead intelligent innovation in the future maritime and fisheries sectors, setting its AI transformation in motion.
KIMFT said on the 18th that it had recently officially launched the 'AI Innovation Promotion Task Force' and begun full-scale operations.


The task force was launched to actively support the government's agenda of becoming one of the world's three leading AI powers, the direction pursued by the National AI Strategy Committee, and the Republic of Korea Artificial Intelligence Action Plan. It aims to put the legal principles of the Framework Act on the Development of Artificial Intelligence and the Framework Act on Intelligent Informatization into practice in public-sector workplaces while creating a trust-based AI ecosystem that organically connects policy, industry, and workers.
Alongside the task force's launch, KIMFT will also operate an AI Working-Level Council to strengthen organization-wide execution. Through this initiative, it plans to become an 'AI-native' organization by embedding AI throughout the institution. At the same time, it has set leading AI transformation in the maritime and fisheries sector as a strategic goal.
Based on this initiative, KIMFT plans to significantly upgrade public administration and maritime and fisheries education and testing services. It also plans to secure future competitiveness by proactively integrating next-generation technologies, including physical AI, which has recently emerged as a key technology in industry, into maritime and fisheries education.
As a first step toward putting this vision into practice, KIMFT identified 14 tasks across three areas: improving institutional productivity through internal-work automation and intelligent data analysis; enhancing public services through greater convenience for trainees and customized administrative support; and preventing risks at education and practical training sites in advance.
To ensure effective execution and responsible management, KIMFT will overhaul its governance structure and build momentum by operating a task force led directly by the head of the institute. It will also divide responsibilities between the AI Strategy Council, the institute's internal decision-making body, and the Working-Level Council, which will strengthen project execution. In addition, KIMFT plans to establish and operate an Expert Advisory Panel composed of outside specialists to verify the technical feasibility of AI adoption.
