[Financial News] As media consumption becomes fragmented across multiple platforms, the standard for evaluating advertising performance is shifting from simple reach and views to users' actual level of attention.
Netflix shared its assessment of changes in the media environment and new advertising strategies at the 'TTD Open Forum,' hosted by global advertising technology company The Trade Desk (TTD) on the 17th.
Ad performance should be evaluated by attention, not reach

Park Young-sun, who served as the presenter, explained that media consumption has recently become dispersed across multiple platforms. "Brands are competing more fiercely than ever for consumers' attention," Park said. The key is to measure and manage users' actual level of engagement, rather than simply assessing how many people an advertisement reaches.
Park Young-sun said, "People choose different platforms depending on their circumstances and purpose, but they tend to choose Netflix when they want to become immersed. When stories within content attract attention and spark conversations among people, brands working with Netflix can also become part of the content viewers experience."
Netflix uses viewing data to design campaigns that can turn engagement with content into ad viewing. It analyzes the content genres favored by key target audiences, their level of concentration and their viewing times, then incorporates the findings into campaigns for each brand.
Netflix offers advertising solutions that can be selected according to campaign objectives, including video ads, pause ads and interactive ads that users can engage with directly.
Data infrastructure and partnerships must be leveraged to manage attention

Netflix also operates single-title sponsorships, which connect a specific title with a brand. The approach focuses on linking a brand closely with a particular work and connecting interest in the content to brand awareness.
Netflix is also expanding its use of programmatic advertising to improve the efficiency of ad campaigns. Programmatic advertising connects with demand-side platforms (DSPs) to automate ad transactions and placements. Compared with traditional ad-buying structures, it reduces operational steps and allows campaigns to be adjusted in real time.
This allows advertisers and agencies to adjust budgets and placement channels according to market conditions or the status of a campaign. Netflix is upgrading its advertising infrastructure by expanding collaboration with DSP providers, including TTD, so advertisers can reach their desired audiences more efficiently.
Park Young-sun said, "If reach and views were important in the past, we are now in an era when attention has become a meaningful metric. The new task for marketers is to actively leverage advanced data infrastructure and technology-based partnerships to manage attention and incorporate it into their strategies."
