[Financial News] As Hanwoo beef prices rose ahead of Chuseok, increasing the burden on consumers, Coupang launched a large-scale discount event.
According to industry sources on the 18th, Coupang is holding the 'Soprise Korea Hanwoo Sale' through the 24th in partnership with the National Korean Beef Association and the Hanwoo Self-Assessment Fund. Hanwoo beef is being sold at prices roughly half the usual level.
According to the livestock distribution information service Dabom, prices for beef loin and brisket rose 8.3% from the same month last year. The increase was attributed to higher feed costs resulting from rising imported grain prices and a decline in the number of cattle available for shipment.
Coupang secured a total of 25 tons of Hanwoo beef for the event. It is offering around 30 items, including loin, brisket, soup meat and bulgogi, which are in high demand during the holiday season. The products can be ordered through Rocket Fresh and will be delivered the following morning through its dawn delivery service.
A Coupang official said, "We prepared this promotion for customers worried about grocery prices due to rising Hanwoo beef prices ahead of Chuseok. We hope that offering high-quality Hanwoo beef at reasonable prices with a fresh delivery service will help customers enjoy a plentiful holiday during this period of high prices."
