"Safely Without Language Barriers"—Hanwha Corporation E&C Division Expands Tailored Safety Training for Foreign Workers

[Financial News] Hanwha Corporation E&C Division has conducted safety and health training tailored to the language and cultural characteristics of foreign workers.
According to Hanwha Corporation E&C Division on the 18th, the company conducted tailored safety and health training for foreign workers at the Hanwha Forena Cheonan–Asan Station construction site on the 16th. In addition to in-person safety and health training organized by nationality, the company provided first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) practice for various situations, along with video-based training for all its sites.
The proportion of foreign workers at construction sites has continued to rise in recent years. As a result, the importance of safety training that takes language and cultural differences into account, as well as stronger emergency response capabilities, has also grown.
Since last year, Hanwha Corporation E&C Division has been working with the Korea Changjik Competency Development Institute and the Central First Aid Education Institute to regularly provide tailored safety training led by safety culture instructors for foreign workers.
This safety training was conducted separately for workers from five countries: China, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar. Safety culture instructors from each country personally led the sessions and explained first aid theory in the workers' native languages, improving their understanding of the training.
The company also arranged hands-on first aid training with the participation of professional first aid instructors. The sessions were conducted with interpretation by safety culture instructors for foreign workers. The training covered △first aid methods, including the Heimlich maneuver, for airway obstructions; △cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and initial response procedures for cardiac arrest patients; and △how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and respond to emergencies.
Participants also took part in repeated drills based on simulated emergency situations. They practiced repeatedly using mannequins and AEDs and received feedback from professional instructors. Training equipment that provided real-time information on the accuracy and speed of chest compressions was used to help participants master proper CPR techniques.
Hanwha Corporation E&C Division selects and operates nationality-specific "safety and health leaders" to expand foreign workers' voluntary participation in safety activities. These leaders support safety inspection meetings (TBMs) before work begins and safety training for foreign workers. The company also helps them improve their skills by covering fees for the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) and providing other support.
Yunhae Kim, head of the Safety, Environment and Management Office at Hanwha Corporation E&C Division, said, "As the number of foreign workers at construction sites continues to increase, practical safety training that takes language and cultural differences into account is important. We will continue expanding in-person training at construction sites and hands-on programs so that foreign workers can recognize and respond to dangerous situations on their own and further strengthen their safety capabilities."
