A Cheong Wa Dae official explained, "The president is taking this press conference that seriously and with a strong sense of responsibility," adding, "The schedule was pushed back by about 30 minutes to give him time to refine his remarks until the very last minute."
As controversy continues to arise over current state affairs, President Lee appears to be carefully reviewing his answers and message until immediately before the press conference. The issue of withdrawing indictments, controversy over a constitutional amendment allowing consecutive presidential terms, and personnel matters involving Kim Seung-won, a nominee for minister of justice, are among the issues likely to draw extensive questions at the press conference.
There are also several diplomatic and security issues requiring the president to provide direct explanations, including consideration of deploying troops to the Strait of Hormuz and investment negotiations with the United States.
