[Financial News] Hankook Tire is strengthening its push into Europe's commercial vehicle market by extending its original-equipment tire supply contract with Europe's largest trailer manufacturer, Schmitz Cargobull. Building on their business relationship, which began in 2013, the companies will continue supplies through 2030. Hankook plans to provide products tailored to applications ranging from long-haul transportation to construction sites and expand into replacement tires.
Hankook Tire & Technology announced on the 18th that it had signed an original-equipment (OE) tire supply agreement for truck and bus tires (TBR) with Schmitz Cargobull. The four-year contract runs from July this year through June 2030.
Schmitz Cargobull is Europe's largest trailer specialist, manufacturing refrigerated semi-trailers and dump trailers, among other products. It operates production facilities in Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Lithuania, Romania and Türkiye.
Hankook Tire first supplied original-equipment tires to Schmitz Cargobull in 2013 and has since expanded its product lineup while working with the company. Through the new agreement, Hankook plans to continue its business with the long-term customer and strengthen its supply base in Europe's commercial vehicle market.
Key products supplied include SmartLine for high-speed, long-haul applications, Smart Flex for medium- and long-haul use, and Smart Work for dump trucks. The lineup is tailored to driving distances and operating environments and incorporates Smartec, Hankook Tire's commercial vehicle tire technology system.
The supply scope will expand beyond original-equipment tires to include replacement tires. The strategy is to meet not only deliveries at the vehicle production stage but also demand for tire replacements arising during vehicle operation.
Hankook Tire explained that the agreement resulted from meeting Schmitz Cargobull's supply standards for quality, performance and service life. Backed by its product competitiveness and stable supply capabilities, the company plans to expand its presence in Europe's original-equipment commercial vehicle tire market.
Meanwhile, Hankook Tire continues to participate in exhibitions including the UK's 'Road Transport Expo,' Germany's 'IAA Transportation' and 'Logistics Transportation Fair,' and 'THE TIRE COLOGNE,' promoting its commercial vehicle tire technologies and products to European customers.
