"Let's go meet your parents together..." Woman in Her 30s Who Claims to Be Dating Lee Dong-wook: What Does His Agency Say?

[Financial News] A fraud case has occurred in which someone impersonating actor Lee Dong-wook demanded money.

On the 17th, SBS's News Hunters introduced the story of a woman in her late 30s, identified as Ms. A, who transferred approximately 35 million won to someone claiming to be Lee Dong-wook.
Ms. A encountered the Lee Dong-wook impersonator through social media early this year and continued communicating with the person via KakaoTalk for about eight months.
Their conversations included affectionate remarks such as "I love you," "Let's go meet your parents together," and "Honey."
Ms. A believed that she was in a romantic relationship with Lee Dong-wook and claimed that he had confessed his feelings first.
Ultimately, Ms. A transferred roughly 35 million won to the impersonator. The person claimed to have sent her a package containing gifts worth approximately 700 million won while filming overseas, but said it had been held by customs and demanded money to cover the cost of issuing customs clearance documents.
Although the depositor names on the bank accounts provided by the impersonator were all different, Ms. A never suspected that she was dealing with an impersonator. The person deceived her by sending selfies of Lee Dong-wook and photos of the gifts.
Lawyer Lee Kyung-min, commenting on the case, said, "It seems that Ms. A did not suspect at all that this was a scam. Approaching someone through social media as if you were their romantic partner and then asking for money is a typical romance scam."

That day, Lee Dong-wook's agency, King Kong by Starship, announced on its official social media account, "We have recently received reports of people impersonating our artists' personal messaging and social media accounts."
It added, "Our artists do not ask for valuables, money, or personal information through personal messaging or social media accounts. In particular, they never make personal approaches to request money under the pretext of holding a VIP fan meeting."
The agency also urged the public, saying, "There are no fan meetings involving our artists, so please exercise particular caution to prevent any harm or confusion related to this matter."
