Trump Says “Significant Progress” on U.S. Military Base in Poland... Seventh in Europe

[Financial News] U.S. President Donald Trump, who is pushing to build Europe’s seventh permanent U.S. military base in Poland, which borders Russia, said there had been “significant progress” on the project.
On the 17th local time, Trump posted on Truth Social, “Tremendous news! Thanks to the bold leadership of my friend, Polish President Karol Nawrocki, significant progress has been made toward building a U.S. Army base in Poland.”
He stressed, “If completed, the location will be announced very soon, and it will be a historic step for the great U.S.-Poland alliance.”
That day, Nawrocki wrote on X, “Poland is ready to continue working to strengthen its defense cooperation with the United States.” Nawrocki is a right-wing politician with pro-Trump leanings and has remained close to Trump even as other European countries distance themselves from him over the war with Iran. In May, Trump announced that an additional 5,000 U.S. troops would be deployed to Poland. At the White House in Washington last September, Trump told Nawrocki, “If Poland wants, we could send even more troops,” adding, “I have never even thought about withdrawing troops from Poland. We will stand with Poland to the very end.”
According to Politico, Poland, a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), currently hosts about 10,000 U.S. troops. The United States has rotated troops through Poland since 2017 and operates two permanent military facilities there. However, these facilities support the deployment of small numbers of troops, and only six European countries—Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, Belgium and Türkiye—host permanent U.S. military bases.
