People Power Party supreme council member Kim Jae-won strongly criticized the Lee Jae Myung administration's push to appoint its nominees for minister of justice and minister of national defense at a supreme council meeting on the 17th, foreshadowing a strong struggle inside and outside the National Assembly.
Regarding Kim Seung-won, nominee for minister of justice, Kim Jae-won raised various allegations of corruption and illegality, calling him "not fit to be justice minister but headed straight to prison" and demanding that the nomination be withdrawn.
He also questioned the qualifications of Kang Shin-chul, nominee for minister of national defense, citing allegations that he had unlawfully secured a special housing allocation for demolition-area residents, known as a "ttakji," among other issues.
Kim Jae-won then claimed that the ministerial appointments were politically motivated to undermine the rule of law and pressure the opposition. Citing past cases, he called for an all-out struggle to force nominee Kim Seung-won to step down.
