[Financial News] It has been confirmed that Gyeonggi Province closed a residents' petition calling for Choo Mi-ae, the Gyeonggi Province governor, to leave the Democratic Party of Korea.
On the 17th, a Gyeonggi Province spokesperson said the petition was closed because it was "unrelated to Gyeonggi Province's major issues or policies."
The spokesperson emphasized that "Gyeonggi Province petitions serve as a channel for communication with residents about the province's major issues and policies." The spokesperson explained the reason for closing the petition, saying, "Matters requiring a high degree of political judgment are excluded from the petition process."
The petition in question was first posted on the Gyeonggi Province petition board on the 15th. Titled "Governor Choo Mi-ae, Please Voluntarily Give Up Your Party Membership," it had attracted more than 10,000 supporters by the morning of the 17th.
The petition followed another petition posted on the 11th calling for Governor Choo's resignation. The petitioner claimed that Choo was excessively intervening in national politics instead of fulfilling her core duties as the governor responsible for Gyeonggi Province's administration, and demanded, "Take the decisive step of voluntarily giving up your party membership."
Under the Gyeonggi Province petition system, a petition that receives more than 10,000 supporters within 30 days of being posted requires the governor to provide an official response within 30 days. Regarding the petition, the Gyeonggi Province spokesperson said, "It will be handled in accordance with the relevant regulations."
