Jeju Province to Get Up to More Than 80 mm of Rain, Along with Strong Winds and Rough Seas

【Financial News Jeju—Reporter Jeong Yong-bok】 Ahead of the weekend, Jeju Province is expected to receive up to more than 80 mm of rain, accompanied by strong winds and high waves. Rain in mountainous and mid-mountain areas is forecast to continue through the morning of Saturday, the 19th.
According to the Jeju Regional Meteorological Office on the 18th, Jeju Province will be mostly cloudy with rain that day. Through the morning of the 19th, areas other than the northern and western parts of Jeju Province are expected to receive 10–50 mm of rain. Some areas could see 80 mm or more. The northern and western areas are expected to receive 5–30 mm.
By region, relatively heavy rain is expected mainly east of Hallasan. In eastern and mountainous areas, including Seongsan, Sancheondan, Hannam and Seongpanak, the probability of precipitation on the 18th was forecast at 80% both in the morning and afternoon.
Most of the rain will stop on the 19th. However, rain could continue in places in mountainous and mid-mountain areas from 9 a.m. to noon. Skies will gradually clear from the afternoon of the 19th. The 20th is expected to be mostly clear, although mountainous areas may see frequent clouds. The 21st is forecast to be mostly clear.
Winds will also be strong. Very strong northeasterly to easterly winds are expected in Seongsan, Sancheondan, Hannam and Seongpanak on the 18th. Strong winds are also forecast for Jeju, Seogwipo, Gosan and the Chujado Islands.
Marine conditions will also be unfavorable. On the 18th, strong northeasterly to easterly winds are expected over the waters off Jeju Island, with waves reaching 1.5–3.5 m.
On the 19th, wave heights in the southern and eastern waters off Jeju are expected to reach up to 3.5 m. High waves of around 3 m are also forecast to continue in the northern and western waters.
The Korean Meteorological Administration forecast that caution will be necessary regarding rough seas around Jeju for the time being. Even after the rain stops, marine conditions may stabilize later than conditions on land, so people should check weather information before sailing, fishing or engaging in marine leisure activities.
The daytime high on the 18th is expected to be 25–28°C. On the 19th, the morning low will be 22–23°C and the daytime high will reach 26–28°C. The daytime high on the 20th is forecast at 27–28°C.
