Busan Health University's Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry Arts Becomes a Hub for Nurturing Global Talent

[Financial News] Busan Health University's Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry Arts was selected on the 16th as SPC Group's first 'Outstanding Baking and Pastry College' and successfully hosted a global career and employment seminar, the university said on the 17th.
Lee Min-cheol, a senior manager at SPC École Lenôtre; Jeon Seong-min, a manager at Culinary Academy; and Park Hye-rim, an operations support representative, attended the seminar and delivered lectures and introduced the curriculum.
Around 70 people attended, including students from Busan Health University's Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry Arts, prospective university applicants for the 2027 academic year, and current baking and pastry professionals.
The seminar covered the future and prospects of the baking and pastry industry; why baking and pastry professionals need to systematically plan their careers; ways to pursue education and employment in the United Kingdom, France and other countries; and SPC Group's specialized academy curriculum and talent-development system.
Participants explored how to develop their own expertise and competitiveness beyond simply acquiring baking and pastry skills, as well as the practical capabilities required in domestic and international industry settings.
They also used the occasion to map out their futures in concrete terms and reaffirm their determination to grow into professional talent capable of leading South Korea's baking and pastry industry.
Lee Min-cheol, who delivered the lecture, said, "The growth achieved by Busan Health University's Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry Arts in just a few years was highly impressive," adding, "The students also displayed an outstanding attitude, actively learning and moving forward toward the future with clear dreams."
He continued, "After comprehensively examining the curriculum, practical training environment, global employment results, and the students' passion and potential for growth, I was able to confirm that Busan Health University's Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry Arts is unquestionably one of the best baking and pastry departments in South Korea."
From 2023 to the present, Busan Health University's Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry Arts has helped 40 current students and graduates secure jobs at baking and pastry companies in Canada and the United States.
The students employed overseas have been working steadily at local companies after earning recognition for their diligence and expertise. Five of them have also obtained permanent residency.
Based on these achievements, Busan Health University's Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry Arts is being recognized nationwide as an outstanding department in overseas employment.
Recently, it has drawn attention from students and parents nationwide, including those in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province as well as Busan and South Gyeongsang Province, as a competitive department that develops global baking and pastry professionals.
Professor Kim Jeong-gye, who planned and organized the event, said, "We arranged this seminar so that students would not stop at learning baking and pastry skills, but would plan their careers over the long term and take on challenges on the global stage," adding, "We will further expand industry-academic cooperation with leading domestic and international companies, including SPC Group, and strengthen a global career support system that organically connects education, field training, overseas internships and employment."
Woo Hee-seop, head of the Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry Arts, said, "This seminar was a meaningful occasion where current students, prospective freshmen and industry professionals came together to examine the future of the baking and pastry industry and the possibilities for global advancement," adding, "We will continue to actively reflect the rapidly changing demands of the industry in our curriculum and do our best to develop K-bakery talent equipped with professional skills, creativity and global capabilities."
Busan Health University's Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry Arts actively supports students in pursuing careers in the global baking and pastry industry through field-oriented practical education, participation in international competitions, industry-academic cooperation with domestic and international companies, and overseas training, internship and employment programs.
Busan Health University's application period for 2027 early admissions runs through the 30th. The Department of Hotel Baking and Pastry Arts is accepting 80 students in total.
