PUAC’s Busan Dong-gu Council Hosts ‘Bukjakbukjak Kitchen with Mentors and Mentees’

[Financial News] The Busan Dong-gu Council of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council (PUAC), chaired by Kang Young-ja, said it held the ‘Bukjakbukjak Kitchen with Mentors and Mentees’ event at the shared kitchen of the Beomil 2-dong Community Service Center on the 17th.
The event followed a mentoring format, with advisory council members serving as mentors and North Korean defectors and marriage migrants participating as mentees.
The event was held in two sessions, with around 40 participants in total. They discussed North Korean food and everyday culture and made a variety of North Korean dishes, including dububap, sokdojeon, konggogi-bap and North Korean-style dumplings, giving them an opportunity to understand one another’s cultures naturally.
Through an explanation by Hwang Hyun-jung, a North Korean defector and instructor, participants learned about the food culture and daily life of North Korean regions. By making and sharing food together, they broadened communication and built empathy among the participants.
Kang Young-ja, chair of the Busan Dong-gu Council, said, "Food is a good medium that helps people who have lived in different environments naturally open their hearts and grow closer," adding, "I hope this event will serve as an opportunity for North Korean defectors, marriage migrants and the local community to understand one another and draw closer as warm neighbors."
PUAC’s Busan Dong-gu Council plans to continue broadening communication and shared understanding in the local community through various peace and unification activities in which North Korean defectors and local residents can participate together.
