[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said on the 17th, regarding the government's decision to introduce abortion medication in phases, "Rather than waiting for a perfect solution, I think it is a better decision to start with what we can do now."
President Lee wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "Seven years have passed since the Constitutional Court of Korea ruled that the abortion law was nonconforming to the Constitution."
President Lee said, "In the meantime, women have had to rely on overseas direct purchases or illegal transactions because they could not obtain safe abortion medication, and they have had to take risks in the process." He added, "Even while the leaking ceiling is being fixed, the floor is still getting wet."
He continued, "At yesterday's National Policy Coordination Meeting, the decision to introduce abortion medication in phases was made for this reason. Above all, women's health and safety are the most important. We will carefully review the safety management system throughout the introduction process and listen fully to the voices of the medical community," he stressed.
