14-year-old boy referred to prosecutors after 29 malicious contacts with family of woman who went missing and died in Jeju

[Financial News] A 14-year-old boy who repeatedly sent malicious text messages and made phone calls to the family of a woman in her 30s who went missing in Jeju and was later found dead has been referred to prosecutors.
The National Office of Investigation said on the 17th that it referred Boy A, 14, to prosecutors on the 14th on charges including violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes.
Boy A is accused of repeatedly contacting the missing woman's family 29 times in total by sending text messages or making phone calls to a number they had made public, including messages that said, "If you let me hear moaning sounds, I'll help find the missing person." Police arrested Boy A on the 22nd of last month.
Police are also continuing to monitor and investigate acts of secondary victimization targeting the deceased and the bereaved family.
An official from the National Office of Investigation said, "Spreading false information about the deceased or mocking or disparaging her is a serious form of secondary victimization that defames the deceased and inflicts additional pain on the bereaved family. Depending on the content and severity, such acts may be punishable under relevant laws."
The official added, "If illegal conduct is confirmed, we will track those responsible to the end and respond firmly in accordance with relevant laws. We ask you to be considerate of the pain of the deceased and the bereaved family and join us in fostering a mature online culture."
