[Financial News] The Korea Financial Planning Association, an incorporated association, announced on the 17th that it will hold an "AI Financial Planning Contest" for university students nationwide.
The official title is the "1st National University Student AI Financial Planning Contest—AFPK Young Planner Challenge 2026." Quarterback Group and the Korea FP Association are sponsoring the event, which is co-hosted by the Korea FP Society.
As the first contest to combine university students' AI capabilities with financial planning, the event requires participants to choose either their own or their family's actual financial situation or a hypothetical client case. They must then use AI to prepare and submit a report based on the six-step financial planning process.
The six-step process consists of establishing a relationship with the client; collecting client information and setting goals; analyzing and evaluating the client's situation; preparing and presenting a financial planning proposal; supporting implementation of the proposal; and monitoring implementation progress and the client's circumstances.
Any university student nationwide, including students on leave, may participate. Entries may be submitted individually or in teams of up to four people. Applications are accepted through the Korea Financial Planning Association's website until Nov. 16. The winners are scheduled to be announced on Dec. 7.
Awards will be presented to a total of 18 teams, with total prize money of 6.5 million won. In addition to the prize money, teams receiving the top and excellence awards will be given one-on-one mentoring from industry professionals and two-month subscriptions to an asset management platform. Encouragement award winners will receive one-on-one mentoring from industry professionals.
All winners will also receive scholarships covering the AFPK examination fee. A total of 2,969 people took the 94th AFPK certification examination, held on Aug. 22, and 813 passed, for a pass rate of 33.2%. They will also receive priority access to the AI Financial Planning Camp, a practical training program for university students scheduled to be held next February.
Choi Moon Hee, president of the Korea Financial Planning Association, said, "The six-step financial planning process follows the international standard KSS ISO22222, but the content it contains must reflect our own realities. Beginning with this contest, we will cultivate future professionals who will lead Korean-style financial planning."
