KORAIL said it conducted a safety inspection at Dodam Station in Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, on the 17th. Kim inspected the shunting operations and, together with on-site employees, checked the condition of audible alarms, safety fences and remotely controlled access gates.
Dodam Station is a major logistics hub of KORAIL's Chungbuk Regional Headquarters, handling cement, gravel and other materials. The Chungbuk Regional Headquarters handles more than 90% of the nation's cement rail transport volume and more than 30% of total rail freight logistics.
Audible alarms and safety fences were newly installed at Dodam Station in July. Since this month, remotely controlled access gates have also been in operation to strengthen track access control.
Kim said, "It is important not to overlook even a single minor risk factor on site and to create an environment where employees can work with peace of mind. Please make safety the standard for every decision made on site."
