Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety to Use AI to Inspect and Repair Aging Bridges... "Aiming to Cut Costs and Time by 30%"

[Financial News] The Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety is applying 23 advanced maintenance technologies, including AI analysis and rapid repairs, to aging bridges currently in service. 
The Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety said on the 17th that it had held a comprehensive demonstration of the national R&D project 'Advanced Infrastructure Management Technology Development' at Yongsan Bridge in Myeongseok-myeon, Jinju City, South Gyeongsang Province. At the event, the authority verified the feasibility of applying the technologies in the field by linking the entire process, from inspection and diagnosis to repair and reinforcement, as well as management and operation.
The research team used AI to analyze footage of the underside of the bridge recorded with Robo-Cam, assess its condition, and calculate the required repair materials. It then repaired the site using integrated rapid repair equipment and calculated the facility's life-cycle cost (LCC) through an advanced management system.
The research is currently in its third stage of development and is nearing the commercialization of its core technologies. The research team aims to reduce inspection and diagnosis costs, shorten the traffic-control time required for repair and reinforcement, and cut the facility's life-cycle cost by 30% compared with current levels.
Park Chang-geun, president of the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety, said, "Through the comprehensive demonstration, we verified the technological integration and field applicability throughout the facility maintenance process. We will do our utmost to further advance the technologies and deploy them in the field."
