KORAIL President Kim Taeseung Inspects Jungang Line Freight Operations, Emphasizes "Everyday Safety Principles"

[Financial News]  Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) conducted an emergency inspection of safety management at a rail freight hub on the Jungang Line.
 KORAIL said President Kim Taeseung visited Dodam Station on the Jungang Line in Danyang County, Chungcheongbuk-do, on the afternoon of the 17th to inspect shunting operations and on-site safety equipment. Dodam Station is a key hub for KORAIL’s Chungcheongbuk-do Headquarters, handling more than 90% of the country’s cement rail transport and more than 30% of KORAIL’s total rail freight operations.
 The inspection was conducted to identify and eliminate potential hazards in advance at rail freight sites handling large volumes of cargo and to create a safer workplace. Since July, Dodam Station has installed new voice alarms and safety fences for on-site workers. This month, it also introduced remotely controlled access gates to strengthen management of track access.
 After touring the shunting operations site, President Kim met with employees to discuss their concerns and ways to improve the work environment.
 President Kim urged employees, saying, "Making the workplace a place where employees can work with peace of mind without overlooking even minor hazards is our top priority." He added, "Make safety the basis for every decision made in the field, and work to ensure that safety becomes an everyday principle of conduct."
 Meanwhile, shunting operations, which involve separating and connecting rail cars, are considered one of the most hazardous processes in railway operations. Because workers must enter the space between moving rail cars, creating a persistent risk of serious accidents, labor groups have called for fundamental structural improvements, including the introduction of wireless control and automated equipment.
