Daegu Policy Institute President Moon Hong-sung Works to Strengthen Research Capacity for Future Growth Strategies

Moon Hong-sung, the second president of the Daegu Policy Institute, has been working tirelessly for Daegu's future development since taking office on the 1st.
On the 17th, Moon attended the Daegu Advanced Industry Development Strategy Advisory Council meeting at the Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center. The council is leading Daegu's sweeping economic overhaul, a key initiative of Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho, and laying the groundwork for fostering advanced industries. Moon offered advice on taking a clear-eyed look at Daegu's limitations and strengths, driving an industrial transformation centered on advanced industries, and completing the city's new industrial map.
On the 1st, instead of holding a separate inauguration ceremony, Moon held his first meeting with employees. He shared his views on the operating direction of the Daegu Policy Institute and its organizational culture.
At the meeting, Moon emphasized, "What matters at the Daegu Policy Institute is not formality but a culture where people can discuss things freely." He added, "We will accelerate efforts to foster an organizational culture in which people respect one another and freely exchange opinions regardless of rank, age or gender."
Moon is an expert in economic and fiscal policy. He graduated from the Department of Economics at Seoul National University, earned a master's degree in policy studies from the university's Graduate School of Public Administration, and received a doctorate in economics from Missouri State University.
After entering public service through the 31st National Civil Service Examination, he held key positions at the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Presidential Office. He also worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He later served as president of the Doosan Management Research Institute, head of group strategy, president of the new business division, and CEO and president of Doosan. He has also worked as a visiting professor at Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech).
He explained the institute's research direction. Moon said, "The significance of research at the Daegu Policy Institute lies in creating a joyful life for Daegu's citizens." He repeatedly stressed, "We must reflect citizens' voices from the field, drive tangible change, and create new added value through that process."
He also proposed, "The Daegu Policy Institute must establish itself as a trusted and authoritative policy research institution by presenting effective policy alternatives to the diverse issues affecting Daegu citizens' lives." He added, "To achieve this, we will continuously build our research capabilities through free discussion, collaboration and a field-oriented approach."
Meanwhile, the Daegu Policy Institute plans to strengthen its capacity to respond to regional issues and research future growth strategies, drawing on Moon's expertise in economic and fiscal policy and his experience spanning central government, international organizations and private companies.
