Ewha Womans University Professor Byung Joon Jung Wins National Academy of Sciences Award

[Financial News]  Byung Joon Jung, a professor in the Department of History at Ewha Womans University, received the 71st National Academy of Sciences Award.
Ewha Womans University said on the 17th that Jung received the National Academy of Sciences Award in recognition of his contributions to research on modern and contemporary Korean history and the Korean independence movement through the three-volume work Kim Kyu-sik and His Era, published last year.
The National Academy of Sciences Award was established in 1955 to promote academic research and is presented to researchers who have achieved outstanding research results.
Kim Kyu-sik and His Era is a three-volume, 1,872-page work about the life of Kim Kyu-sik, an independence activist and diplomat. Drawing on historical materials from Korea and abroad, Jung documented Kim's activities, including his diplomatic work at the Paris Peace Conference, his involvement with the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, the anti-Japanese movement in China, international diplomacy, and the country's liberation. The work is distinguished by its examination of the course of Korea's independence movement and modern and contemporary history through Kim's life.
Jung has primarily studied modern Korean history and the history of the independence movement. His publications include A Biography of Lyuh Woon-hyung, A Study of Unam Syngman Rhee, The Korean War, Dokdo 1947, Alice Hyun and Her Era, and A History of the Immediate Post-Liberation Period in 1945. He has also continued researching major events and figures in modern Korean history by uncovering historical materials scattered overseas.
Jung said, "It is a great honor to receive the National Academy of Sciences Award," adding, "I will take it as encouragement to continue striving on the path of scholarship."
