[Financial News] LS Group is expanding its business in the energy and telecommunications infrastructure, key minerals, and rare metals industries in three Central Asian countries: Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan.
LSCUS and LS MnM announced on the 17th that they recently met with government officials from three Central Asian countries who were on a state visit for the Korea-Central Asia Summit and signed three separate Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) regarding the establishment of telecommunications cable production infrastructure, development of the mineral sector and creation of added value, and the creation of a rare metals industry ecosystem.
First, on the 15th, LSCUS met with officials from the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan and signed a business cooperation MOU regarding the construction of local telecommunications infrastructure in Turkmenistan. This is a follow-up measure to discussions held with the Turkmenistan telecommunications authorities since 2024 regarding the establishment of local fiber optic cable manufacturing facilities and large-scale supply plans.
Once this project materializes in the future, it is expected to lead to the securing of large-scale construction projects through synergy with LS Marine Solution, a cable construction business. Both parties plan to discuss specific business plans and implementation schedules following the signing of the MOU.
Prior to this, on the 14th, LS MnM signed an MOU with the Ministry of Industry and New Technology of the Republic of Tajikistan for the development of the mineral sector and the creation of related added value. Both parties plan to review the potential for development and investment in Tajikistan's mineral resources, and to establish measures for information exchange and cooperation to materialize the business.
In addition, on the 16th, LS MnM participated in a multilateral MOU for long-term cooperation in the field of rare metals, together with the Korea National Institute of Rare Metals and the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation at Satbayev University in Kazakhstan. The participating organizations plan to build a sustainable ecosystem for Korea-Kazakhstan rare metals industry cooperation based on the cooperation center and expand related technology and industrial cooperation.
"Central Asia is a region with significant growth potential in energy infrastructure and key minerals, based on its advanced telecommunications infrastructure and abundant mineral resources," an LS official stated. "Leveraging LS's technological capabilities in power and telecommunications infrastructure as well as resources and materials, we will expand the group's new market avenues while making a private-sector contribution to strengthening supply chain and industrial cooperation between Korea and Central Asia."
