Coway Strengthens Microbial Technology for Food Waste Processors Through Agreement with Seoul National University

[Financial News] Coway announced on the 17th that it had signed an agreement with Seoul National University to transfer technology for developing mixed microbial strains to decompose food waste.
Coway has been conducting research with Seoul National University since 2023 through industry-academic cooperation to identify microbial strains optimized for food waste processors.
The technology development was led by a research team headed by Kang Dong-hyun, a professor at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Seoul National University. Kang has accumulated research achievements in reducing pathogens in food and developing selective media for detecting microorganisms, and is regarded as an authority in microbial control.
Based on its research analyzing factors that promote and inhibit microbial growth, the team developed technology to select microorganisms that maintain their performance even under extreme decomposition conditions.
Through this technology transfer, Coway has secured the technology and research capabilities to independently select and cultivate decomposition strains suited to Korea’s food waste treatment environment. It plans to launch the Zero Food Waste Processor—Microbial Type, incorporating the technology, at the end of this month.
A Coway official said, "We will introduce next-generation eco-friendly food waste processors incorporating our innovative expertise in microbial development."
