Faces and Personal Details Revealed in Japan... Two South Korean Men Extradited to Japan After Fleeing Following a Failed Attempt to Steal About 400 Million Won Eight Years Ago

[Financial News] Two South Korean men who failed to steal cash worth about 400 million won in Tokyo eight years ago and fled to South Korea have been extradited to Japan. In line with the local practice of disclosing the identities of suspects in serious criminal cases, their faces were shown unblurred on television.
According to Nippon Television Network (Nippon TV), TBS and other Japanese media outlets on the 16th, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has arrested and is questioning two South Korean men in their 20s or 30s on suspicion of attempted robbery.
They are accused of spraying pepper spray at a Chinese man in his 30s who was affiliated with a precious-metals purchasing company on a street in Tokyo's Taito City on November 12, 2018, and attempting to steal a bag containing about 47 million yen, or approximately 420 million won, in cash.
When the victim strongly resisted and thwarted the attempt, the men fled to South Korea through Narita International Airport just eight hours after the crime.
Eight years after the crime, their custody was transferred to Japan on the 15th under the Japan–South Korea Extradition Treaty.
Japanese broadcasters reported the suspects' arrival at Haneda Airport almost live. Despite their masks, their facial features and identifying details were shown without blurring.
Of the five people involved at the scene, two had already been arrested and convicted in Japan. The remaining one is the subject of an INTERPOL wanted notice.
The suspects extradited this time have invoked their right to remain silent during police questioning or denied the allegations, saying, "We did not try to rob him."
