Ruling Party Pushes Ahead with Adoption of Kim Seung-won Hearing Report... People Power Party Walks Out, Saying "Suspicions Not Resolved"

[Financial News] On the 17th, the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly adopted the report on the confirmation hearing for Ministry of Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won, led by the Democratic Party of Korea. The People Power Party walked out of the meeting, protesting the adoption of the report despite the fact that various allegations against the nominee have not yet been resolved.
Representative Park Hyung-soo, the People Power Party's ranking member on the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, strongly protested the addition of the adoption of the personnel hearing report for nominee Kim Seung-won to the agenda, stating, "None of the suspicions have been resolved."
In response, Representative Kim Eui-gyeom, the Democratic Party of Korea's ranking member on the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, said, "As the public who watched the hearing knows, the differences between the People Power Party and the Democratic Party of Korea are so wide that a compromise is not easy, and I hope they will understand."
After the People Power Party walked out of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee meeting, the Democratic Party of Korea continued to demand revisions to the allegations against nominee Kim Seung-won raised in the personnel hearing report.
Democratic Party of Korea Representative Park Kyun-taek stated, "Although I was citing the claims of People Power Party lawmakers, it is an incorrect argument to portray them as if they were illegal," and demanded that expressions such as "pointing out" be corrected to "claims." In accordance with these demands from ruling party lawmakers, certain expressions in Kim Seung-won's confirmation hearing report are scheduled to undergo revision.
The People Power Party lawmakers who stormed out of the meeting held a separate press conference and criticized the Democratic Party of Korea.
The People Power Party stated, "We can never agree to the Democratic Party of Korea's tyranny of blocking proper verification at the source and pushing through a predetermined conclusion," and urged, "We strongly demand of the Democratic Party of Korea: Immediately stop and withdraw the adoption of the hearing report for nominee Kim Seung-won, which is opposed by the majority of the public and riddled with legal and moral flaws."
