On September 17, Woori Financial Group announced that it had held the September Advanced Strategic Industry Finance Council on September 16 at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, with Chairman Jong-ryong Yim presiding.
At the council meeting, Chairman Yim urged, "Building on the productive finance results we have accumulated, we must now broaden the scope of our support further to local businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises with technological capabilities." He added, "Please also pursue inclusive finance with a sense of sincerity and speed so that the funds needed by customers facing economic difficulties can reach them in a timely manner."
Through last month, Woori Financial Group supplied a total of 25.3 trillion won in productive finance, including 1.5 trillion won in investments and 23.8 trillion won in loans. This represents 35.7% of the five-year productive finance target under the Future Co-growth Project and 116.3% of this year’s target.
In investment, the group is expanding funding tailored to companies’ growth stages through participation in the National Growth Fund and the provision of venture capital. In particular, the CJ 4DPLEX Project Fund, worth a total of 220 billion won and identified by Woori Bank, received final approval last month from the National Growth Fund’s Fund Management Deliberation Committee. It was the first fund approved through the FSC Growth Company Discovery Council. The fund connects companies directly identified and recommended by Woori Bank with policy finance, while the bank participates throughout the process, including sourcing, matching fund managers, and designing investment terms. The National Growth Fund is set to invest 50 billion won in October, while Woori Financial Group will participate with 65 billion won, ahead of the fund’s formation and deployment.
Woori Investment Securities also supplied 365.1 billion won in venture capital through last month, exceeding its initial target by 180%.
Woori Financial Group is also accelerating its AI transformation (AX) efforts to strengthen the execution of productive finance. Of the 75 AX initiatives related to productive finance, the group has completed development of 13, including initiatives for credit assessment and risk management as well as corporate sales support.
Woori Financial Group is also steadily implementing its plan to expand inclusive finance, announced in June. Through last month, it supplied a total of 2.2 trillion won, including 950 billion won in support for low-income households, 790 billion won in mid-interest-rate loans, and 430 billion won in loans for small business owners. Woori Bank’s personal credit loan interest-rate cap of 7% per year had provided approximately 7.5 billion won in interest relief to about 75,000 people by the end of August.
The group will also continue canceling long-term delinquent debt to help financially vulnerable people return to normal economic activity. Woori Bank canceled 42.4 billion won in long-term delinquent debt during the first half of the year, supporting the recovery of 2,387 people. It plans to cancel an additional 120 billion won at the end of September. Woori Card will also cancel approximately 120 billion won, bringing the group-wide total to 280 billion won to help ease the debt burden on vulnerable groups.
Meanwhile, Woori Financial Group decided in June to inject an additional 10 trillion won into the Future Co-growth Project this year. As a result, the total amount Woori Financial Group will allocate to productive and inclusive finance has increased to 90 trillion won.
