According to Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. on the 17th, the hospital will have three underground floors and nine above-ground floors, comprising seven buildings and 1,534 beds. The construction period is 63 months, including the design period.
This contract is the largest single project in the company's history. The amount far exceeds its annual revenue of 1.8 trillion won last year.
Tunga General Hospital is a national core medical infrastructure project in western Singapore. The National University Health System (NUHS) will operate the hospital, which is scheduled to be developed into a large-scale integrated medical campus incorporating cutting-edge clinical research and digital medical solutions.
Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. was the only Korean construction company among the 11 participating bidders to pass the pre-qualification (PQ) process. Although its bid was not the lowest, it was selected as the final successful bidder over Japanese and Chinese competitors.
Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. has built several of Singapore's landmark buildings. Representative examples include Marina Bay Sands Hotel, known as the modern-day Leaning Tower of Pisa, Raffles City, and W Hotel.
"This contract win is the result of our technological competitiveness, rather than simply our price, being recognized on the basis of our extensive experience in hospital construction in Singapore," a Ssangyong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. official said. "As we will be independently undertaking this large-scale hospital project, we plan to further strengthen our competitiveness through its successful completion."
