Cho Hyun: "No Decision Has Been Made on Deployment to the Strait of Hormuz"

[Financial News] Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said the postponement of an announcement related to investment in the United States was "understood to be aimed at clarifying domestic procedural issues, rather than reflecting differences between South Korea and the United States." Regarding a possible deployment to the Strait of Hormuz, he said, "No decision has been made, and we are reviewing the matter while taking various factors into account."
Cho Hyun made the remarks while meeting reporters at Incheon International Airport as he departed for the United States on the 17th for a South Korea–U.S. foreign ministers’ meeting.
Asked whether investment in the United States could also be discussed at the South Korea–U.S. foreign ministers’ meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the 18th, he said, "It will come up as part of an overall review of relations between the two countries."
He added, "For any issue that runs counter to the national interest or differs from our position, we intend to provide a very detailed explanation and maintain a clear stance."
Regarding a possible deployment to the Strait of Hormuz, Cho Hyun reaffirmed his previous position, saying, "No decision has been made, and we are reviewing the matter while taking various factors into account."
Cho Hyun said the government had already conveyed this position to Iran. Referring to his phone call last week with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, he explained, "We have already stated our basic position and have also conveyed it to the Iranian side."
Regarding follow-up consultations on the nuclear-powered submarine and nuclear cooperation included in the joint fact sheet from the South Korea–U.S. summit meetings (JFS), he said, "We intend to discuss continuing to advance working-level consultations quickly and to implement the JFS, which resulted from the two South Korea–U.S. summit meetings, as soon as possible."
Regarding North Korea–U.S. dialogue, he said, "If a breakthrough is achieved in North Korea–U.S. relations this time, it would be something our government would welcome."
