Hyundai Engineering and Construction to Jointly Develop AI-Based Health-Oriented Housing with Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul National University

[Financial News] Hyundai Engineering and Construction is joining forces with Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul National University to jointly develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based health-oriented housing services.
Hyundai Engineering and Construction announced on the 16th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Seoul National University Hospital and Seoul National University at Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to “establish an AI-based health-oriented housing ecosystem and create health value.” The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Han-woo, CEO of Hyundai Engineering and Construction; Nam-Jong Paik, president of Seoul National University Hospital; and Yoon Young-ho, head of Seoul National University’s Health Culture Initiative, among others.
The three parties agreed to link health examination results with lifestyle data collected in residential spaces, including sleep, exercise, and daily patterns. They will analyze individual health conditions and risk factors and develop personalized AI precision-healthcare services to support healthier behaviors. Their goal is to establish a new housing service model that goes beyond disease diagnosis and treatment to promote everyday health management and extend healthy life expectancy.
The agreement is significant because it represents the first construction company–university hospital–university collaboration in Korea’s construction industry to develop an AI-based health-oriented housing model. The plan is to combine Hyundai Engineering and Construction’s housing expertise, Seoul National University Hospital’s medical capabilities, and Seoul National University’s research capacity to create a next-generation healthcare model spanning health examinations, improved health behaviors, and health-oriented housing.
Key areas of cooperation include developing health-oriented housing services using health examination and lifestyle data; building an AI-based health-oriented housing platform linking health examinations, health management, and precision healthcare; developing holistic health management services covering sleep, exercise, nutrition, and mental health; and establishing and operating a demonstration complex for health-oriented housing services.
Based on the results of their joint research, Hyundai Engineering and Construction will pursue a demonstration project to verify the effectiveness and practical applicability of the services in actual residential environments. Following verification, the services will be developed into products applicable to Hyundai Engineering and Construction’s housing brands, expanding residential spaces into platforms for everyday health management. Research and development on smart housing technologies and healthcare services will be led by the HMG Construction Technology Research Institute, an integrated research organization of Hyundai Engineering and Construction and Hyundai Engineering.
A Hyundai Engineering and Construction official said, "This agreement marks the first step toward creating a preventive healthcare ecosystem that links health examinations, health behaviors, and health-oriented housing into a single system to support residents’ sustainable health management." The official added, "By combining each institution’s smart housing technologies, medical expertise, and research capabilities in health behaviors, we will introduce differentiated housing services that contribute to healthier lives and longer healthy life expectancy."
