[Financial News] A man in his 40s who supported his mother's decision to donate her body after death saved six lives through organ donation after brain death before passing away.
According to KOTRY on the 17th, Park Jong-hee, 43, donated his heart, liver, both kidneys and eyes to six patients at Chosun University Hospital on September 4 before passing away.
On the night of August 23, the deceased spoke with his mother by phone, as usual, to check on each other. The following morning, however, he was found collapsed at home and taken to the hospital. He underwent surgery for a cerebral hemorrhage but ultimately became brain-dead.
According to his family, he had always viewed organ donation positively. About 10 years ago, when his mother expressed her intention to donate her body after death, he supported her decision, saying it was a good way to help many people.
In light of his lifelong empathy for the meaning of donation and his belief in the value of sharing, his family agreed to donate his organs.
An only child, he was mature from a young age. He prepared his own meals and helped with household chores while waiting for his mother, who worked late into the night. After graduating from school, he worked in sales for more than 20 years. He and his wife had one daughter, but his wife died young.
His mother said he was a good son who had never caused her worry. Despite her busy life, she often checked on him, and they spent time together on her days off. She added that he was warmhearted and got along well with everyone, and that he would approach and help elderly people in need.
The deceased's mother, Noh Pan-im, said, "I had his cellphone with me while he was hospitalized, and many calls came from acquaintances who were worried about him. Many friends and coworkers also came to the funeral hall." She added, "Seeing that made me think that although he lived a short life, he had lived it well. It brought me great comfort."
She then offered her final farewell to her son, saying, "Jong-hee, I am deeply saddened that you left us so soon, but I am happy when I think that you left after doing something good. Don't worry about your mother. I hope you continue doing good things there, just as you did while living here."
To those who received her son's organs, she also said, "I hope you live long and stay healthy, including for the life my son was unable to live."
