"Ensuring No One Is Left Behind": Hoengseong County Strengthens Welfare and Safety Net for Chuseok

【Financial News Hoengseong = Kim Ki-seop, Reporter】Hoengseong County is implementing comprehensive livelihood and welfare measures during the Chuseok holiday, including visiting 1,882 vulnerable households and preparing for potential gaps in medical services.
According to Hoengseong County on the 17th, the county will operate a comprehensive response team for four days, from the 24th through the 27th, during the Chuseok holiday. A total of 146 personnel—91 members from 12 teams at the county headquarters and 55 from township and township offices—will be deployed to respond to civil complaints and emergencies. Key areas include civil-service support, road management, the living environment, quarantine measures to prevent livestock-borne infections, and emergency medical services.
In particular, the county will use the public health center’s emergency medical response office to provide information on medical institutions and pharmacies on duty during the holiday. It will also check the operating status of clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies that remain open to minimize gaps in medical care.
The county will also activate a care system for residents who may be especially vulnerable to feeling isolated during the holiday. It provided daily necessities and community-raised Hoengseong Love donations to 1,882 vulnerable households, including basic livelihood security recipients, seniors living alone, people with disabilities, and single-parent families. Hoengseong Love Cards, funded by donations, were also delivered to 555 residents of social welfare facilities.
The county is strengthening welfare services closely connected to local communities. Customized welfare teams in nine townships, local social security councils, and volunteer councils will work together to visit vulnerable households and deliver gifts. Beyond simply distributing supplies, the county plans to significantly increase welfare checks on seniors living alone and households at high risk of isolation so that no resident is overlooked.
The county will identify welfare recipients at risk of missing meals during the holiday in advance and provide easy-to-store ready-to-eat meals. It will also maintain a telephone standby system for emergency safety management personnel to prepare for gaps in care. Donated goods from local businesses, institutions, and volunteer organizations will be delivered to residents in need through township offices and social welfare agencies. The county plans to further develop “Hoengseong, a Community of Mutual Care,” combining public welfare services with private-sector sharing.
Hoengseong County Governor Jang Sin-sang said, "We will carefully monitor welfare blind spots, from checking on seniors living alone to preventing people from missing meals," adding, "With a closely connected safety net built through public-private cooperation, we will do our utmost to ensure that all county residents enjoy a safe and warm Chuseok holiday."
