[Financial News] LG Uplus is partnering with Hyundai Elevator to build a system in which artificial intelligence (AI) analyzes elevator emergency calls and determines whether they involve urgent situations. Under the plan, AI will handle simple inquiries and malfunctions, while actual emergencies will be immediately connected to dedicated staff to speed up responses to elevator accidents.
LG Uplus announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hyundai Elevator on the 15th at the Hyundai Group Building in Jongno District, Seoul, for cooperation in wireless services, AI and security for a smart remote monitoring platform.
The companies first plan to apply LG Uplus’s M2M (machine-to-machine) service to the communications link between Hyundai Elevator’s smart remote monitoring platform, MIRI, and elevators to improve the stability of remote monitoring.
In particular, they will demonstrate an elevator emergency call service model using AI voice recognition technology. An elevator emergency call device allows users to request outside assistance when they are trapped inside an elevator or face an emergency. However, because such devices can also be activated by malfunctions, prank calls or simple inquiries, responses to actual emergencies may be delayed.
The two companies plan to apply AI voice recognition technology to emergency call devices so that AI can conduct an initial analysis of call content. AI will handle simple inquiries and malfunctions, while dedicated staff will respond immediately when a call is determined to involve an emergency. The companies expect this to reduce the workload of monitoring personnel while speeding up responses to actual accidents.
The companies will also expand their cooperation in security. They are reviewing the application of LG Uplus’s key security solutions, including its security monitoring service and U+SASE, a cloud-based network and integrated security platform, to Hyundai Elevator’s MIRI platform. The move is intended to strengthen the security of remote monitoring systems that connect elevators with monitoring centers over networks.
LG Uplus and Hyundai Elevator plan to identify additional digital innovation projects to improve elevator users’ safety and convenience and enhance operational efficiency, with the goal of building a future-oriented elevator service ecosystem.
Lim Jang-hyeok, head of LG Uplus’s Enterprise Customer Group, said, "This cooperation is significant because it aims to innovate elevator remote monitoring systems by organically combining AI and security based on stable wireless communications." He added, "We will continue to work closely with Hyundai Elevator to identify various innovative projects that can improve customer safety and convenience."
