[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung emphasized on the 17th, "We will track down those who scalp tickets, depriving people of legitimate opportunities to attend, and recover every illicit profit they have made."
President Lee Jae Myung made the remarks after sharing on X, formerly Twitter, a news article about the arrest of ticket scalpers.
President Lee Jae Myung emphasized, "The revised Public Performance Act, which took effect on August 28, is already producing results. A ticket scalper who made more than 1 billion won by buying tickets to idol performances, concerts by overseas singers in Korea and sporting events and reselling them for up to 30 times their face value has been arrested."
He added, "We will make it unmistakably clear that anyone who makes illicit profits through ticket scalping will pay an even heavier price," and encouraged the officers, saying, "To all the police officials who worked so hard, thank you for your efforts."
Earlier, the Cybercrime Investigation Unit 2 of the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency arrested and referred to prosecutors a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on suspicion of obstruction of business. Mr. A allegedly purchased 8,967 tickets to popular performances and sporting events in bulk and resold them at a markup over approximately seven years and seven months, from September 2018 through April this year. The total ticket sales during that period were estimated at approximately 2.4 billion won, and police believe about two-thirds of that amount was profit pocketed by Mr. A.
