[Financial News] Hyundai Elevator is joining forces with LG Uplus to enhance its smart remote monitoring platform, MIRI. The company plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI), wireless communications and security technologies into elevator services to strengthen the stability of remote monitoring and its ability to respond to emergencies.
Hyundai Elevator announced that it signed an MOU with LG Uplus on the 15th at Hyundai Group Building in Yeonji-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, for "Cooperation in Wireless Services, AI and Security for a Smart Remote Monitoring Platform."
Under the agreement, the two companies will establish a stable wireless communications environment centered on MIRI and expand their cooperation into AI-based customer services and security. Hyundai Elevator plans to apply LG Uplus's wireless M2M technology to the communications links between MIRI and its elevators, thereby improving communication stability between the elevators and the platform.
MIRI is a smart remote monitoring platform that uses elevator operating data to check conditions in real time and respond accordingly. Hyundai Elevator plans to link AI and security technologies to the platform to enhance its service competitiveness.
The companies will also conduct a pilot project for an elevator emergency call service using AI voice recognition technology. The goal is to improve the speed and convenience of emergency responses by applying AI to the emergency call function, which allows passengers trapped in an elevator or facing an emergency to request outside assistance.
They will also pursue pilot projects for AI-based customer consultation and contact center services, proof-of-concept (PoC) testing of AI solutions, and technology exchanges. In security, the companies are considering applying LG Uplus's network and integrated security platform, U+SASE, to MIRI. They will also conduct PoCs and exchange technologies related to SASE, security monitoring and security equipment.
In 2023, the two companies jointly developed MIRI View, which uses AI-powered closed-circuit television (CCTV) inside elevators to detect abnormal situations—including screams, falls and prolonged stays—and transmit the information to a monitoring center.
Hyundai Elevator and LG Uplus plan to continue identifying innovative projects that improve customer safety, convenience and operational efficiency through this cooperation, while expanding an ecosystem for next-generation elevator services.
Choi Seok-gyu, executive vice president and head of Hyundai Elevator's Service Division, said, "Going forward, the competitiveness of elevators will be determined not only by mechanical performance but also by how quickly and accurately they respond in every situation." He added, "Together with LG Uplus, we will combine AI, communications and security capabilities with elevator services to deliver a higher level of safety and convenience."
