LG Uplus Corp. Chief Technology Officer Bae Ju-hyeok Leads WorldSkills Competition Cloud Team

[Financial News] LG Uplus Corp. Chief Technology Officer Bae Ju-hyeok will serve as the head coach of the South Korean national team for the cloud computing category at the WorldSkills Competition, the world's largest technology competition.
LG Uplus Corp. announced on the 17th that Bae, a member of the DAX team, will participate in WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, the 48th WorldSkills Competition held in Shanghai, China from the 22nd to the 27th, as the national team coach and international advisor for the cloud computing category.
The WorldSkills Competition is the world's largest competition for skilled professionals, held every two years. This year, it will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) in Shanghai, China, with approximately 1,400 participants, including contestants and international advisors, from over 70 countries and regions worldwide. They will compete in technical capabilities across 64 disciplines, including Information and Communication Technology (ICT), machinery, and construction.
Cloud computing is a discipline that evaluates the ability to design, build, and operate IT infrastructure in a cloud environment within a limited time. As the use of cloud computing expands across industries, it was adopted as an official event at the 2019 WorldSkills Competition. Contestants perform different tasks every day during the four-day competition. This year, 17 countries are participating, including Korea, China, Japan, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Switzerland, and South Africa.
This is the third time Bae has served as the head coach of the national team for the WorldSkills Competition's cloud computing category, following 2022 and 2024. At the 2024 competition in Lyon, France, he contributed to Korea winning a silver medal in this event for the first time in history.
Since first participating in the WorldSkills Competition in 1967, Korea has won the overall championship a total of 19 times. At the 2024 competition in Lyon, France, it finished second overall behind China, and it is aiming for its 20th overall championship at this year's competition in Shanghai.
"The WorldSkills Competition is a stage where young technical talents from around the world compete," said Bae, adding, "I will support Korean athletes so they can demonstrate their best capabilities and contribute to making Korea's cloud technology competitiveness known to the world."
