A Literary Stroll Through Seoul

[Financial News] The streets of Seoul bear the traces of characters from novels. The new book "A Literary Stroll Through Seoul" is a field-guide-style humanities book that explores Seoul, the setting of modern and contemporary literature, while examining the landscapes depicted in literary works and the city's memories.
Lee Soon-ja, a Seoul cultural tourism guide with 20 years of experience, documents places connected to the lives and works of writers including Yoon Dong-joo, Hyun Jin-geon, Park Wan-suh, Yeom Sang-seop, Bang Jeong-hwan and Park Taewon, bringing them into conversation with present-day Seoul. Familiar places such as Hyehwa, the former Keijo Station, Jongno, Myeong-dong and Gwanghwamun come alive as settings linked to the writers' lives and scenes from Korea's modern history.
The book includes recommended walking routes based on works such as "One Lucky Day," "Who Ate Up All the Shinga?" and "The Daily Life of Ku-Poh the Novelist," along with around 200 illustrations and photographs. It also shares lesser-known stories, including the origins of the names Euljiro and Chungmuro and the secondhand bookstore Yoon Dong-joo used to visit.
