FCI International Dog Show to Be Held in Hongcheon County, Gangwon Province, Alongside Pet Culture Festival

【Financial News Hongcheon County=Kim Ki-seop】An international dog show and participatory programs for families with companion animals will be held in Hongcheon County over two days.
Hongcheon County said on the 18th that it will hold the 2026 Hongcheon County FCI International Dog Show & Hongcheon County Pet Culture Festival at the community sports park in Hongcheon County from the 19th to the 20th. Hongcheon County is hosting the event, while the Korea Kennel Federation (KKF) is organizing it.
First held in 2024 and marking its third edition this year, the festival combines the expertise of an international dog show with the broad appeal of a cultural festival that families with companion animals can enjoy together. Through the event, the county plans to promote a proper understanding of companion animals and foster a healthy pet culture that both pet owners and people without pets can enjoy.
Four dog shows will be held over the two days. The 2026 Hongcheon County FCI International Dog Show and the Hongcheon KKF Championship Dog Show will take place on the 19th, followed by the Gangwon FCI International Dog Show and the Gangwon FCI A2O Championship Dog Show on the 20th. A total of 680 dogs are expected to enter. Judges from Slovenia, Malaysia, the United States and other countries, as well as South Korea, will participate to enhance the event’s professional standards.
An agility competition requiring dogs and their handlers to work in sync will also be held. The KKF Amateur Agility Competition will take place on the 19th, followed by the KKF National Agility Evaluation on the 20th, showcasing the rapport and teamwork between dogs and their handlers.


The cultural festival adds hands-on activities to the dog shows, which primarily focus on viewing. Programs include a dog Olympics, a dog sports experience for children, free hygiene grooming for dogs, insect-repellent making, a four-photo activity for dogs, tug-toy making, rehabilitation education and consultations, and an adoption campaign for abandoned dogs. Rural experience and recreation villages and local businesses will also participate, offering hands-on programs, local food, and agricultural and specialty products.
Hongcheon County Governor Shin Young-jae said, "From the dog Olympics to the international dog show, this is a unique Hongcheon County event that anyone can enjoy while also offering professional quality." He added, "We will spread a mature pet culture in which companion animals and people live together, making Hongcheon County a city that people want to visit with their pets."
