[Financial News] LG held a meeting of its presidents on the 16th to discuss ways to advance its investment strategy in response to changes in the artificial intelligence (AI) era.
The approximately eight-hour session reviewed the results of existing investments in key areas, including AI factories, physical AI, semiconductors—materials and substrates—and artificial intelligence transformation (AX). The executives also discussed investment directions and execution plans to secure future competitiveness, according to reports.
LG held the meeting at LG Academy in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province. Koo Kwang-mo, chairman of LG, said, "AI is no longer an area that can be addressed selectively; it is a core pillar that determines future competitiveness." He urged the presidents, saying, "To win in the future AI battleground, I ask you to develop speed and relentless execution."
About 40 senior executives from major affiliates, including Koo Kwang-mo as well as LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Innotek, LG Chem, LG Energy Solution and LG Uplus, attended the meeting to review the industrial and technological environment being reshaped by AI.
The presidents reviewed existing investment results and strategies, focusing on key AI battlegrounds such as AI factories, physical AI, semiconductors and AX.
LG said the executives agreed that they should set investment priorities based on clear goals and portfolio strategies, while refining various scenarios and validation processes in response to changes in markets, competition and technology to improve the quality of decision-making.
They also agreed to further strengthen execution by identifying investment opportunities in a timely manner, even in a fast-moving and highly uncertain environment, and by boldly concentrating resources and capabilities where they are needed, LG explained.
LG said the presidents also shared the view that, despite ongoing debate over the pace of AI investment and development, LG’s AI initiatives should place people—not the technology itself—at the center and aim to enhance the practical value of everyday life.
Meanwhile, LG has held presidents’ meetings around key quarterly agendas to advance its business portfolio, including AX in March, Winning R&D in June and investment strategy in September.
