More Than 80 mm of Rain in Jeju’s Mountainous Areas; Marine Gale Advisory Issued and Land Wind Advisory Expected This Afternoon

【Financial News, Jeju—Jeong Yong-bok】 Jeju Province is expected to see rain, strong winds and high waves from the 17th. More than 80 mm of rain could fall in mountainous areas through the 18th, while marine gale advisories have already been issued for large parts of the waters around Jeju Province.
According to the Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 17th, rain will begin in Jeju Province during the morning, mainly in areas east of Hallasan, and spread to other areas on the 18th.
The expected rainfall from the morning of the 17th through the 18th is 5–60 mm across Jeju Province. Some mountainous areas could receive more than 80 mm.
Rainfall will vary considerably by area. Intermittent rain is expected from 9 a.m. to noon on the 17th, mainly in mountainous areas and regions east of Hallasan, followed by rain across Jeju Province on the 18th.
On the 19th, less than 5 mm of additional rain is expected from the early morning through the morning, mainly in mountainous and mid-mountain areas, before gradually clearing.
Weather advisories are also expanding. As of 8 a.m. on the 17th, marine gale advisories were in effect for the waters off northern, eastern and southern Jeju Province, as well as the outer southern sea and inner southeastern sea. A preliminary marine gale advisory had been issued for the waters off western Jeju Province and the inner southwestern sea for the morning.
Waves in the waters off Jeju Province are expected to reach 1.5–3.5 meters on the 17th. Winds are also forecast to blow strongly at 9–15 meters per second, prompting caution for vessels engaged in navigation and fishing, as well as passenger ferries.
No land-based strong-wind advisory has been issued yet. However, preliminary strong-wind advisories have been issued for the mountainous areas of Jeju Province, Chujado Islands, and the eastern and mid-mountain areas of Jeju City and Seogwipo City for the afternoon.
The Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration said very strong winds would blow from the 17th, particularly along the southern coast and in Jeju Province, while high waves would continue in the waters around Jeju for the time being.
The high temperature on the 17th is expected to reach 27–28°C. On the 18th, temperatures are forecast to range from a morning low of 22–23°C to a daytime high of 26–27°C.
The Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration urged people using mountain roads, coastal areas, ports and harbors to check the latest advisories, as rain, strong winds and high waves are expected simultaneously in mountainous and eastern areas.
