[Financial News]  Amid reports that actress Jeon Won-joo, 86, received about 700,000 won per YouTube appearance, her agency denied the claim, saying it was not true.
A representative of Sky People Entertainment told Korea Economic TV on the 16th that the claim Jeon Won-joo received about 700,000 won per YouTube appearance was “not true.”
The agency representative dismissed the report, saying, “I don’t know why this story came up,” and calling it “an unsupported claim.”
The agency also said it had not been confirmed that video uploads would resume on the 29th of this month. “We are meeting with a new production team and coordinating filming plans, but nothing has been decided yet,” it explained.
Earlier that day, Sports Seoul reported, based on an interview with Manager A, who had assisted Jeon Won-joo for about 20 years, that her YouTube appearance fee was approximately 700,000 won per episode. Regarding the departure of the previous production team, the outlet reported that disagreements over content management were a more fundamental cause, along with the issue of raising her appearance fee.
The agency countered that although Manager A had worked as Jeon Won-joo’s manager for a long time, he was not involved in YouTube-related work. It also said the previous production team’s departure could not be explained solely by the appearance fee issue.
Speculation about the appearance fee spread after Jeon Won-joo’s recent remarks. On the 11th, she appeared on actress Sa Mi-ja’s YouTube channel, “Sa Mi-ja, Not Omija,” and said, “When I tried to raise this fee a little, they said they would quit, so I told them we should just continue.” She added, “I shouldn’t focus too much on the money anymore. I told the production team that they could just keep running the channel.”
This led to speculation that the appearance fee issue may have influenced the termination of the contract with the previous production team.
The previous production team that had operated Jeon Won-joo’s YouTube channel, “Jeon Won-joo—Jeon Won-joo the Protagonist,” announced on the 24th of last month that all of its members would withdraw. As various theories emerged over the sudden change in the production team, the agency stated that it was “a contract termination unrelated to health issues.”
