Hits and Saves Turn into Donations... Six Professional Baseball Players to Help Local Children

[The Financial News] Six professional baseball players are donating money based on game records such as hits and saves to help children in their hometowns or the home regions of their teams. Supportive comments from fans are also linked to donations.
According to ChildFund Korea, a child welfare organization, on the 16th, the six players participating in the 'Our Neighborhood Superstar' campaign were finalized. Kang Min-ho, Go Youngpyo, Kang Seung-ho, Na Sung-bum, An Chi-hong, and Woo-suk Go will participate through the end of this season.
After each game, the players pay the pledged donations based on records such as hits, saves, and quality starts. Fans can participate by leaving messages of support or making direct donations.
Shinhan Bank will provide matching donations of up to 60 million won for the funds raised through the individual players' challenges. It will also donate 1,000 won for every supportive comment left by fans on the campaign page.
A key feature is that fans can generate corporate donations through supportive comments without making separate donations. By combining donations based on players' game records with fans' everyday cheering activities, the campaign expands opportunities to participate in charitable giving.
The collected donations will be used in the players' hometowns or the regions associated with their respective clubs. They will support region-specific projects, including talent development and assistance for at-risk infants, children providing family care, young adults preparing for independence, and children from immigrant backgrounds.
The campaign began with An Chi-hong's charitable activities. He has supported children since his professional debut in 2009 and has helped children in the relevant local area whenever he moved to a new team. He continued making personal donations even while serving in the military.
Shin Kyung-geun, head of the Sharing Marketing Division at ChildFund Korea, said, "This is a campaign that any baseball fan can easily participate in," adding, "We will do our best to establish a new culture of sharing in which people can participate in giving simply by offering a word of support."
