Helping Children with Disabilities Get Outdoors... Miral Welfare Foundation and Hyundai Motor Company Provide 500 Strollers

[Financial News] Miral Welfare Foundation and Hyundai Motor Company provided customized strollers to 500 low-income children with severe disabilities in South Korea.
According to Miral Welfare Foundation on the 16th, the two organizations completed delivery of the strollers to 500 households nationwide last month through “Sanchaek,” a project to produce strollers for children with disabilities.
“Sanchaek” is a program designed to help children who have difficulty using standard strollers or wheelchairs go outdoors. It began in March under a memorandum of understanding between the two organizations, with Hyundai Motor Company covering all manufacturing and production costs.
In April, the organizations identified the children’s physical characteristics and the guardians’ needs through a product evaluation session attended by children with disabilities and their guardians. Reflecting this feedback, they produced the strollers with WHYUP and recruited and selected the recipients.
The project is significant because it incorporated the opinions of the children who would actually use the strollers and their guardians into the design. It represents a support model that considers both the physical conditions of the children and the circumstances of the guardians assisting their mobility.
To conclude the project, the two organizations invited 40 recipient families to a “Sanchaek” event on the 14th at Seoul Children's Grand Park in Gwangjin District, Seoul. Hwang Dae-byeok, general manager of Miral Welfare Foundation; Hyo Jun Yoon, head of Hyundai Motor Company’s domestic business division; and Do Hong-gu, CEO of WHYUP, attended and shared the project’s progress and achievements.
The participating families took Polaroid photos, made stroller name tags, and wrote messages of hope. The organizers also operated rest areas and an emergency booth to help children with disabilities and their families participate in the event.
Hwang Dae-byeok said, “For children with severe disabilities, a stroller is more than simply a means of transportation. It is an important tool that helps them encounter a wider world and enjoy everyday life with their families.”
