[Financial News] Ewha Womans University is launching a large-scale fundraising campaign worth KRW 4.2 billion to strengthen its competitiveness in cutting-edge research and expand its talent development infrastructure as it marks its 140th anniversary.
Ewha Womans University announced on the 16th that it is officially launching the ‘Ewha Wave’ fundraising campaign to innovate its educational environment and expand scholarship support for students. The campaign was created to strengthen the university’s global research capabilities amid rapidly changing industrial structures and establish an independent financial foundation to support investment in future education.
The total KRW 4.2 billion raised will be directed toward 15 key initiatives designed to enhance the university’s future competitiveness. Major investment areas include developing specialized talent for the artificial intelligence (AI) era, strengthening faculty research capabilities, and constructing advanced educational facilities such as Ewha West Campus and the Ewha Advanced Academic Information Center. The funds will also be used broadly to expand youth employment and startup support programs, increase scholarships for enrolled students, and improve student welfare.
To establish a long-term culture of giving, the campaign has introduced a regular installment plan modeled on the length of a student’s time at the university. Each sponsorship unit is based on four years, or 48 months, the period during which a student studies at the university. Under the plan, donors pledge KRW 10,000 per day, or KRW 300,000 per month, for 48 months, contributing KRW 14 million per person. The university aims to reach its target of KRW 4.2 billion by securing 300 units. Fundraising progress in each area will be visualized through an interactive graphic called the ‘Wave Map,’ allowing donors to see their contributions at a glance.
Ewha Womans University is expanding outreach about the campaign to existing donors, alumni, faculty, and staff. Donors who participate will receive a special commemorative scarf marking the university’s 140th anniversary as a token of appreciation.
Choi Yoon-jung, head of Ewha Womans University’s External Relations Office, said, "Preparing for the next 140 years requires us to address many challenges, including strengthening our world-class research competitiveness, developing future talent, and creating advanced educational and research environments." She added, "A strong financial foundation is essential to turn these goals into reality, and I hope that the sincerity of each individual will come together to become the driving force behind the university’s new leap forward."
