[Financial News] Seoul Housing & Urban Development Corporation (SH Corporation) demonstrated digital construction supervision and construction automation technologies using artificial intelligence (AI) and robots at the Magok 16 public housing construction site.
According to SH Corporation on the 16th, it held a field demonstration and results-sharing event on the 14th at the Magok 16 public housing construction site in Gangseo District, Seoul, for the “Digital Construction Supervision and Construction Automation Technologies” project, a national R&D initiative led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT).
The demonstration was organized to assess the field applicability of digital construction supervision and construction automation technologies developed over the past five years by the Digital-Based Building Supervision Research Group, led by Professor Kang Kyung-in of Dankook University, and to identify areas requiring improvement.
The event was jointly hosted by the Dankook University Smart Safety Technology Center, the project’s lead research institution, and SH Corporation. MOLIT and the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement sponsored the event. About 100 external experts and officials from policy research institutions, supervision teams, and construction companies attended.
SH participated as a joint research institution and provided the Magok 16 site, where structural work is underway, as the demonstration test site.
The research group plans to incorporate the improvements identified during the demonstration before the research project ends in December. Based on the verification results, it will then pursue further technology enhancement and commercialization.
Following the demonstration, SH plans to assess the applicability of smart construction technologies, including AI and robots, and review ways to link them with its ongoing “Annual Smart Construction Technology Implementation Plan.”
Hwang Sang-ha, president of SH Corporation, said, "This demonstration was an opportunity to verify the field applicability of digital construction supervision and construction automation technologies and identify areas for improvement." He added, "Smart construction technologies are expected to play an important role in addressing the various challenges facing construction sites, including the decline in construction workers and the need to strengthen safety and quality management."
