Rail, Airport and Road Research Institutes Form First Collaboration Network to Jointly Develop Future Transportation Technologies

[Financial News] Research institutes affiliated with public organizations in the rail, airport and road sectors have established a joint research network for the first time.
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 16th that it had signed an agreement with the research institutes of Incheon International Airport Corporation, Korea Airports Corporation (KAC), and Korea Expressway Corporation at its headquarters in Daejeon to promote research cooperation among public transportation-sector research institutes.
Proposed by KORAIL’s Railroad Research Institute, the agreement aims to improve the efficiency of joint research by linking the research capabilities and infrastructure of public transportation-sector organizations.
The four organizations agreed to exchange research results and technical information and to identify and pursue joint research projects. They will also share their testing and demonstration infrastructure and cooperate on cross-sector demonstrations to validate technologies developed in other areas of transportation.
They will also identify convergence research projects that combine the expertise of each organization. The plan is to jointly address transportation-sector issues that are difficult for individual organizations to tackle alone.
Based on the network’s operational results, the four organizations plan to encourage other public organizations closely related to transportation to join the initiative.
Yang Tae-hoon, head of KORAIL’s Railroad Research Institute, said, "It is highly significant that research institutes at public transportation organizations have built a single research network for the first time, going beyond their respective areas of expertise. We will take the lead in developing and commercializing future transportation technologies that people can experience in their daily lives."
