Third Call for Sunlight Income Villages Opens: “Target Is to Identify 700 Villages This Year”

[Financial News] The government is launching the third call for applications for Sunlight Income Village, a program in which residents share revenue from solar power generation. After 608 villages applied in the second round—more than four times the number in the first round—the government decided to hold another recruitment round to reflect additional demand for participation.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) announced on the 16th that it will conduct the third call for applications for the 2026 Sunlight Income Village program from the 17th through October 30.
Sunlight Income Village is a program in which villages participate in solar power generation projects and share the resulting revenue with residents. In the first call, held through May, 129 villages applied and 87 were selected. The second call, which closed at the end of July, drew applications from 608 villages. The number of applicant villages increased more than fourfold from the first round.
MOIS is conducting the third call for villages that were unable to apply during the previous application periods, as well as villages that were advised to apply in a subsequent round during earlier calls.
The results of the third call are scheduled to be announced at the end of December following a review. The results of the second call, which is currently under review, will be released at the end of this month.
The Sunlight Income Village Promotion Team is pursuing the goal of identifying 700 Sunlight Income Villages this year.
